SANDER
LIVES UP TO ITS NAME AT ROLFE JOINERY
Rolfe
Joinery has halved the time it takes to sand components
by trading up to a Timesavers-Sandingmaster twin
head wide belt sander, The small King's Lynn family
business specialises in making standard and purpose-
made constructional joinery items such as windows,
door frames, staircases and conservatories, using
mainly pine and some hardwood. Its new twin-head
Dutch-made Sandingmaster 3200 model features a
1350mm working width, a large 280mm calibrating
roller, extended infeed and outfeed tables, digital
single point thickness setting and high powered
motors. It was purchased from sole UK agent T.M.
Machinery Sales Ltd, of Leicester, who have serviced
Rolfe Joinery's 12-year-old single belt SCM sander
and other machines for several years.

sanding time in half at Rolfe Joinery |
After
deciding it would be beneficial to update our
sanding facilities with a twin belt model, we
looked at all the different machines available
before picking the Sandingmaster," says Ron Rolfe,
who runs the business with his wife and two sons.
"Let's face it, most sanders look the same and
do the same job these days, so a machinery supplier
has to offer something more to make a sale. In
T.M's case it was a competitive price together
with the superb level of after-sales service we
had come to expect from them. "We have been impressed
with the quality of their sales engineers and
the speed at which they dealt with any problems
we had over the years. I feel I am talking to
people who really understand the joinery business
as they are all very hands-on, unlike a lot of
the salesmen who try to sell us equipment. This
gave us the confidence to buy." All of the flat
components, however large or small, are put through
the Sandingmaster prior to being assembled. Joiner
Dave Marriott says everyone likes using it because
of its simplicity. "All you have to do is set
the thickness of the wood and it does the rest.
Where before we often had to put a piece through
up to three times before it was really smooth,
most of the jobs can now be done in one pass.
I reckon it saves us half- the time it took before.
For example, we have just put through 400 sashes
for windows in just half-a-day."
He
says it always gives a good finish due to the
course belt on the front head and a fine one on
the rear head, with its powerful suction taking
the dust away. "This is a big advantage as the
old sander was always getting clogged up with
the fine dust from the pine." Adds Ron Rolfe:
"T.M. gave us some good advice on the size of
machine we needed for the work we do, and it's
everything they said it was as far as the quality
of the finish is concerned. They are exceptionally
nice people to deal with and even arranged the
sale of our old sander." Timsesavers-Sandingmaster
machines, with their solid construction, reliability
and superb performance, offer a number of technical
advantages that make them especially attractive
to middle-market users. In particular, they are
unique in incorporating membrane-controlled segmented
pads while most manufacturers use cylinders, which
are less accurate. Prices start at £6,000.
