The
two companies were formed in 1996 and now have
150 employees and an annual turnover of around
£10 million.
Hale Construction has strict quality control procedures
for the processing and manufacture of timber frame
components. It holds TRADA certification under
the Trussed Rafters Quality Assurance Scheme.
The
Compact 4164, which has a maximum cutting size
of 3100 x 1644mm and a cutting depth of 60mm,
is used to size a range of sheet materials. It
replaced a sliding table saw.
It
was bought primarily to cut 9mm thick OSB sheet
material used in the construction of the timber
framed buildings. Four of the sheets are put on
the saw's bed at a time.
They
are needed as external building panels to give
structural integrity, meet fire regulations and
to seal cavities.
The versatile and easy-to-use saw also sizes plywood
and MDF sheets into smaller pieces as required
for other joinery contracts. It has even been
used to trim 45mm thick wooden doors.
Said
joinery foreman Philip Rue: "We needed a faster
and safer saw so I spoke to four manufacturers.
I came across the Compact in a B&Q store, where
it cuts customers' wood, and after seeing another
one at work at a local door manufacturer I decided
it was the perfect saw for us."
Its
sliding table saw needed two men to load the panels
and then hold them steady during sizing. It's
now a one-man job with the Compact, which has
freed up a man for other work.
"It's also a great time saver," said Philip Rue.
"I reckon it has cut down the time we spend sawing
sheet materials by at least a quarter, making
us a lot more efficient.
"Health & Safety is very much a major priority
with us. The Striebig is a lot safer to use than
a sliding table saw as the saw blade is totally
enclosed, with no danger to the operator."
The Compact is based on a single, fully welded
sawing frame to give decades of reliable service
whilst maintaining cutting precision.
Like other models in the Compact series, the 4164
has a re-designed control panel, saw head housing
and saw head operating mechanism. Medium and small
work piece supports extending along the full length
of the machine make it is quick and easy to saw
small pieces.
It also has a highly efficient integral dust and
chips extraction system ensures that dust levels
are kept well below permitted European limits.
It was supplied and installed by Striebig's exclusive
UK agent, T.M. Machinery Sales, of Leicester.
