All three branches of a leading Northwest chain of independent sheet material suppliers now use Striebig Compact vertical panel saws following two recent purchases. Timber and sheet material importers G E Robinson, of Salford, and associate company Garstang Timber and Building Supplies, of Preston, have bought Compact 4164 models to handle all their sheet material sizing.

The Compact replaced an elderly beam saw at Salford. At Preston, it has delivered added efficiency and convenience for customers as panel sizing was previously carried out on a dimension saw in the saw mill. Both saws, supplied by Striebig’s UK agent, T.M. Machinery Sales, are fitted with a 400mm strip cutter accessory for fast and accurate repeat cuts.

A third group company, Makerfield Timber and Building Supplies of Wigan, has been using a Compact since 2007. They are used to size a variety of wood-based panels including MDF, plywood, OSB and hardboard, ranging in thickness from 3.2 to 25mm. All three businesses are part of Northern Ireland-based Haldane Fisher, a long-time Striebig user. As well as featuring at three of its outlets in the Province, a Compact model has been used at its Douglas, Isle of Man branch since 2005.

Striebig Compact

The Compact 4164 is the smallest machine in Striebig’s nine-strong entry-level series with a cutting range of 3100 x 1644mm (10 ft x 5 ft) and a maximum depth of cut of 60mm. It features automatic moving backing support and with a powerful 3.9kW motor, and has exceptionally efficient integral TRK dust extraction that surpasses current European health and safety legislation.

Based on a single, fully welded sawing frame, the Compact is built to give decades of reliable service whilst maintaining cutting precision. A wide range of accessories enable users to extend the functionality and performance of the machine and to adapt it to meet individual requirements.

Paul Kavanagh, operations director at G E Robinson, said: “Our parent company in Northern Ireland has been using Striebig saws for a number of years and recommended that we also do so”.

Flexible and Accurate Panel Saw

“Before buying the two latest machines I did check out competitive makes and came to the conclusion that in the Compact we had the right animal for the job. It’s flexible, accurate, sturdily built and efficient, as well as being a valuable space saver.”

He added that it was also now far easier and quicker for operators to load panels on to the Compact than on to the beam and dimension saws.

T.M. Machinery’s sales director Matt Pearce said; “By moving exclusively to Striebig, businesses within the Haldane Fisher group are demonstrating the faith they have in the world’s most respected brand of vertical panel saw.”
